Furry Furriday: Semi-Retro Edition

TGIF!

All the animal pictures featured on this blog thus far have been very recent; however, I am sitting on a lot of pictures of them all from our pre-October 2013 move. Would eight months be considered retro? Generally, no. But we are so very settled in our new house now that it makes everything in our old house ancient history. So to compromise, “semi-retro” fits, right? 🙂

Date: 10/13/2013. Here is one of the many trips Bruno and I took to move our stuff to the new house.

9/19/2013: One month before we moved. As soon as I whip out a camera and stoop down to his level, he always walks towards me and ruins the shot, so this is a rare time when he actually sits still for the camera. I'm sure he walked over right after this shot though. :)

A New Wake Up Call

I finally found a solution to all my troubles in waking/getting out of bed early: place a coffee grinder nearby and have it go off at 4:40 am!

This was accidentally tested today to great success:

First, you have to know that our bedroom is next to our kitchen. Not ideal, but it is what it is. Anyway, while programming the coffeemaker last night for this morning, I realized that I ran out of ground coffee, which meant that I had to delve into my back up bag of coffee beans. Fast forward to 4:40 am, when my fantastic automatic drip coffee machine with grinder screamed as it whipped those beans into freshly ground coffee. Meanwhile, my fiance nearly jumped out of bed along with a cat next to me who leapt three feet in the air. I know it scared the dog in the living room too (on the other side of the kitchen), because seconds later, I could hear him jump off the couch and his nails tap on the hardwood floors to the kitchen tiles and then padding into our bedroom. But never mind that it scared everybody else, I was awake and ready to conquer the world!

My fiance, mystified that it scared everyone but me, may have asked me if I knew that the coffeemaker would make that racket those waking sounds that early in the morning, and I may have shrugged with a Cheshire smile.

One thing I was willing to admit, however, was that the coffee indeed tasted absolutely delicious today. Muaaahaaahaa!

Tastes like SUCCESS.

SUCCESS tastes delicious.

EXERCISE LOG

I worked out today!

This fuzzy early morning pic is brought to you by my wonderful programmable coffeemaker with grinder! Hee.

Actually, I almost turned back twice due to pain in my leg: once a minute after I started and another at 0.85 miles. The thing is, each time I turned to head back to my house, the pain would suddenly disappear, so I’d shrug and say, “What the heck” and keep on going. Toward the end, my leg definitely felt like it needed to rest, but at that point, I reached the mileage I would have been if my leg didn’t hurt, so it all worked out.

2 days in a row of workouts, whoop!

Back to Business Tuesday Mumbo Jumbo

After three luxurious days of sleeping in and relaxing, the last thing I want to do was wake up early for a workout.

But after almost a week of no workouts, there was no way I could skip today – especially since my leg feels okay again. So I took my time (read: 45 minutes) in sending step-by-step instructions to each muscle and limb to get myself out of bed. It was painful, but I finally did it and got dressed.

“Proof” that I got out of bed. NOT easy!

And tried to act thrilled about it.

YAY.

YAY.

But not after drinking a few big swigs of coffee. <– lifesaver

I pumped out 2.12 miles on my walk today, which may not sound impressive, but what was spectacular about it was that I didn’t experience any pain. There was a slight discomfort that started almost from the beginning, but it felt more like a stretch than pain or ache. In all, I consider it a massive improvement! Now to see if my leg will feel good enough to workout tomorrow as well… Crossing my fingers over here! 🙂

I would have worked out today except that yesterday I sort of twisted my leg when getting into the car at the bank. It was a good thing too, as my leg started complaining today while I was at Costco and walking to the post office box. I do plan on working out tomorrow, however, so hopefully it will shape up in time to do so! 🙂

Whisker Wednesday

Bloggy Stuff:

  • I have no idea why and how the cats always get photographed with a nice camera, yet when it comes to the dog, he gets my iPhone? I promise you he’s just as loved and gets the most treats in this house. I mean look: he has his own blankets, pillows and his own side of the couch. Spoiled much?
  • This will be the last Whisker Wednesday because… I’m moving it to Furry Furridays! For me, TGIF is never without a cute pic of something cuddly and furry, so why not my blog too, right? Right! 😉

EXERCISE LOG

Once again, waking up this morning was torture, but I did it:

And completed 2.04 miles. Woo!

Today was a GREAT workout – not the kind where my heart is about to beat out of my chest or where I turn bright red in the face (I miss those days), but for the simple reason that by the time I was done, I could have pushed for another 1/8 to 1/4 mile! It’s all the sign I need to know that my leg is healing for sure.

Normally, I am that crazy person who would celebrate that realization by pushing for that last extra distance, but I plan to work out tomorrow, and planning my first attempt at back-to-back workouts since I hurt my leg is already asking for a lot during the rehab process. Furthermore, even though my leg is improving, it did experience that familiar ache at 1.5 miles again, so I should just be grateful and not push it. 🙂

EXERCISE LOG

I got up at 4:40 am this morning…

And went on a 2.13 mile walk!

At 1.5 miles, I felt my leg tug at me again, but I managed to push through and reach 2 miles. It was a good thing I was pretty much in front of my house by then because I’m not sure my leg could take much more. But still – I was able to work out today, so hooray!

RECAP: 5/12 FOOD LOG

Beverages

  • Jasmine tea: 32 oz
  • Water: 70 oz

Breakfast

  • 3/4 cup Fage 0% Greek yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 31 g Special K Vanilla Almond cereal

Lunch

  • Leftover 3 oz brisket, 1/2 potato, 2 carrots, French bread

Snack

Dinner

The weather was incredibly hot today, so I came up with a brilliant idea to eat something cold for dinner. I tried this “5-Minute Healthy Strawberry Frozen Yogurt,” but it didn’t quite work out. Maybe it was because I froze fresh strawberries, but my food processor would not and could not process all the strawberries, so I ended up with a lot of rock-hard frozen chunks. It got better as it warmed up, but then it became more soup-like. 😦 So I ate a few bites and then surrendered to a bowl of cold cereal, which I should have chosen for dinner to begin with.

  • 5-Minute Healthy Strawberry Frozen Yogurt (Recipe here)
  • 1 bowl of cereal with almond milk.
